Polygamy
The mormon doctrine of polygamy is one that has caused controversy, even within the Church, since it was first revealed to Joseph Smith. Even Joseph was reluctant to practice it, and he did not want to ask other to practice it. The fact remained, however, that it was a commandment from God, and thus it became mormon doctrine for many years. Due to intense persecution, followed by the increased and steady faithfulness of the Saints in their obedience to this difficult law, the Lord withdrew His commandment for the Mormons to live this law at this time. Most persecution has been lifted, but the history is still there.
